Ways of the Circle The painting process, for me, is an act of searching and experimentation. Working gesturally and reacting to the unique circumstances within each painting, I draw on my experiences and environment to create something that reflects my perception of the world. In this body of work, the basic or primal shape of the circle is a character in the paintings. A circle can suggest an eye, an orbit, an egg, the moon, a breast, a face - many things. And a circle is a loop, endlessly gaining or losing potential. The creation and destruction of forms and space is inherent in painting, and I wonder if in loss the connection to every other thing subject to a cycle is felt more acutely.
